Violent Shoplifter Arrested
Just the other day, PCSO Hennigan (Gospel Oak Ward) and PCSO Ilkowska (Kentish Town North Ward) were on their break and not in uniform, they attended a local supermarket to purchase their lunch.
As they walked in, they saw a male force his way past the security barriers, carrying a bag filled with chocolate Mini Eggs and soft drinks.
Both PCSO's immediately engaged with the male in an attempt to prevent him from leaving, but the suspect violently pushed past both PCSO's and ran out of the supermarket and attempted to make his escape, still holding onto the stolen goods.
Determined not to let him go, PCSO Hennigan and PCSO Ilkowska chased the suspect, while contacting PC Iqbal (Belsize Ward) and PC Meg Amado (Highgate Ward) for assistance.
PCSO Ilkowska made attempts to detain the suspect by taking hold of his arm, but the suspect punched PCSO Ilkowska on the arm and broke free. The suspect then ran off, where again, PCSO Ilkowska and PCSO Hennigan made attempts to detain the suspect, resulting in PCSO Ilkowska being pushed in the chest.
Working together and showing great courage and determination, PCSO Hennigan and PCSO Ilkowska managed to detain the suspect until colleagues arrived!
Receiving live updates, PC Amado and PC Iqbal ran to support their colleagues and were soon by their sides, where PC Iqbal arrested the male for Theft (Shoplifting), Common Assault and Possession of Cannabis.
With the overwhelming evidence, the suspect was charged for all three offences, he was remanded in custody and sent to court the following day.
All £140 worth of stolen property was returned to the supermarket, who were extremely happy to have their goods back and for the efforts of all officers involved.
Another example of the dedication our fantastic PCSO's have in keeping communities safe, with a violent offender behind put bars!
